Rethinking Insurgency
The Iraq war is drawing more parallels with the Vietnam war.
We might say at this point in time that the military started into the Iraq War hoping to avoid fighting a counterinsurgency war at all. Now that we're well into the fifth year of that war, and even further into the (now-)NATO intervention in Afghanistan, the generals have relearned the lessons of the Vietnam War counterinsurgency.

The Whole World's Watching
In World War 2, aerial intelligence was secret. The Internet has changed that.
American intelligence analysts allegedly saw aerial photos of the German-run concentation camps during World War II and had some idea what they were. But the public did not see these images at the time. Just as radio, television, and the Internet have tremendous affects on the public’s access to information, so does aerial imagery.

Scientology: The Empty Wallet Of An Indian Tourist
A good post from an Indian visiting the Scientology Center discusses L. Ron Hubbard's World War II service.
I began my trip to the Center with an exploration of L Ron Hubbard’s life – my tour guide, June, went through childhood to death, telling me of all the wonderful things that L Ron Hubbard did in his life (many of which are false; for example, the display said Hubbard was a heavily decorated WWII soldier, earning 21 medals of honor. Unfortunately, his US Navy record indicates he was awarded just four routine medals - the American Defense Service Medal, awarded to everyone serving at the time of Pearl Harbor, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal, this last received by everyone serving on V-J Day).

Nazi's Work Permit Revoked
A report on SS Captain Erich Priebke.
An Italian judge did the right thing and put the Nazi back under house arrest. Pity the Italian authorities didn’t throw the bastard in jail, where he belongs.

False Accusations?
A look at Iranian involvement in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
If Iran gets successfully blamed for American failure in both Iraq and Afghanistan, the temporary ego boost they feel will be quickly tempered by American bombs raining down on every nuclear facility the DoD the CIA can find. Furthermore, if Iran does successfully support insurgents in both wars just enough to force an American withdrawal from Iraq and a refocus on Afghanistan, they’re in trouble, as the tables will suddenly turn as Iran must try as hard as it can to keep Iraq from spilling over while not being able to fight a pissed off and determined U.S. by proxy to the east.

Mitt Romney: All Suit, No Man??
A look back at Mitt Romney's father, George, and the Vietnam war.
In 1968 George Romney, Mitt’s father, was a candidate for the GOP presidential nomination and discovered very late in the game that supporting the Vietnam War was a loser of an issue so he changed his mind, claiming that he had been “brainwashed” by the military (Gene McCarthy commented that a “light rinse would of sufficed”).

What's In A Name
This city is named after a hero of the Revolutionary War, but it's not sure what name it should settle on.
But first we need to change our name to Greenwich. As you know, Greensboro is named for Nathanael Greene, Revolutionary War hero and George Washington's most gifted and dependable general. Did you also know that between 1808 and 1895 that Greensboro was called Greensborough? Well, it was. It's obvious, then, that the important part of "Greensboro" is the "Green" part, and that we can continue to hohttp://blogcarnival.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-new.cgi?__mode=list_entries&blog_id=45&is_power_edit=2&filter=status&filter_val=1 Entries | War Stories | Movable Type Publishing Platformnor the great general by substituting "wich" for "sboro."
